How to clean your oven with baking soda.

  • Newspapers or paper towels
  • ¾ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • Rubber gloves
  • Damp dish cloth
  • Plastic spatula or plastic scraper
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle

1. Remove the oven racks

First, ensure that the oven has cooled completely, and then remove the racks, as well as any other items  from the oven to make room for cleaning. Put them away to be cleaned up later.

2. Prepare the floor

Prepare the floor around the base of your oven by laying out newspapers or paper towels.

3. Prepare and apply the paste

Create a paste by combining the baking soda with the warm water in a bowl.

Spread the paste over the interior of the oven while wearing rubber gloves. Pay special care to any locations that contain a significant amount of residue.

Leave the oven alone for the night (or for at least 12 hours).

4. Clean the oven

After letting the paste  soak for the allotted time, remove the paste from the dish with a dishcloth that has been dampened. To scrape any areas that are difficult to access, you can use a plastic spatula or a plastic scraper.

Put some vinegar in a spray bottle, but don’t fill it up too much. Spray anywhere in your oven where there are traces of baking soda left.

Make one last pass over the surface with a dish cloth that has been dampened in water to remove any remaining foamy mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Continue doing so until your oven is totally spotless.

5. Clean the oven racks

Start to clean the racks in your oven. Fill your sink (or bathtub, if your racks are big enough) with warm water and a little bit of dishwasher soap.

Put the racks in the water with the soap and let them soak for at least two hours or all night. Use a scouring pad to scrub, then rinse and dry.

Slide the racks back into the oven when you’re done cleaning it.

6. Clean the oven door

Mix baking soda and warm water to make a paste then spread the paste on the glass with rubber gloves and let it sit for at least 20 minutes.

Wipe the paste away gently with a damp microfiber cloth. Use a dry microfiber cloth to clean the glass.

7. Clean oven knobs

Don’t spray the knobs directly with liquid cleaners, as this could cause the control panel to short out.

Put a small amount of dish soap on a wet dish towel and use the dish towel to wipe on and around the knobs.

Depending on how often you use your oven should determine how often you clean it. As a general rule, people who bake a lot should try to clean it once every three months, while people who don’t bake very often can wait up to six months before cleaning.
