Step 1. Pick a location for the shelf
First, decide where the shelf will go. Then, think about how heavy the shelves are and how heavy the things you will put on them will be.
When there is a lot of weight involved, it is best to find the wall studs and use them as support. If that isn’t possible, drywall anchors are the next best thing.
Step 2. Measure
Choose how high you want the shelf to be and mark on the wall with a pencil where you want to put the first bracket. Then, use a level and a measuring tape to figure out where the second bracket should go and mark it.
At least two brackets are needed to put up shelves. If the shelf is long or heavy, you may need more brackets to keep it stable and stop it from sagging. If you think you need more than two, measure and mark the extras now.
Step 3. Drill holes
Drill small holes for the screws that will hold the brackets to the wall. After that, screw each bracket into place, making sure not to tighten the screws too much.
Depending on how the shelves are made, you can either just set the board on the brackets or use screws or another fastener to attach the shelf to the brackets.
Step 4. Test the weight of the shelf
Before putting things on the shelf, make sure the installation is strong and make any changes that seem necessary. Don’t worry if you see a little bit of movement; that’s normal. As long as the shaking isn’t too strong, it means that the shelf won’t move too much if the wall or floor moves.
Everyone will mount shelves at some point. Shelving is aesthetically beautiful and utilitarian, unlike framed photographs and sump pumps. Without experience, you can hang shelves in under an hour
